Mumbai: Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut appeared before the Law Enforcement (ED) Directorate here on Friday to record his statement in a money laundering investigation, and left after more than ten hours.

Raut reached the ED office located at the Ballard Estate in South Mumbai around 11:30 a.m. He was seen leaving the office around 10 p.m.

Heavy police forces were deployed outside the central agency office as a large number of Shiv Sena employees were present at the scene. Barricades were placed on the roads leading to the office.

After arriving, the Sena deputy, sporting a saffron muffler around his neck, greeted his supporters before entering the office with his attorney.

Speaking to reporters before going inside, Raut said: “I will cooperate with the agency in the investigation. They summoned me, they need me for information and this is my duty as an MP, responsible citizen and leader of a political party to cooperate with them.

He said he was “fearless and fearless” as he had “done nothing wrong in life”.

When asked if it was a politically motivated case, Raut said, “We’ll find out later. I think I’m appearing before a neutral agency and I have full confidence in them.”

Earlier today, the Sena chief posted a tweet saying, “I will be appearing before the ED today at noon. I respect the subpoena issued to me and it is my duty to cooperate with the investigative agencies. I call on Shivsena workers not to gather at the ED office. Don’t worry!”

The ED had summoned the Rajya Sabha member for questioning in connection with the money laundering investigation linked to the redevelopment of a Mumbai ‘chawl’ (building) and related financial dealings involving his wife and children. friends.

The agency had summoned him earlier on June 28. However, Raut had called the ED summons a “plot” to prevent him from fighting political opponents of the Shiv Sena following a rebellion by party MPs, and said he would not be was able to appear before the agency on Tuesday because he had to go to a meeting in Alibag (district of Raigad). The ED then issued a new summons and asked him to appear before it on Friday.
